Join me on my adventure to the big sandbox in Iraq. I started on this adventure March 29, 2010 when I was notified that I was being mobilized for 520 days to serve with a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) based in Iraq. The definition for Provincial Reconstruction Team is a unit consisting of military officers, diplomats, and reconstruction subject matter experts, working to support reconstruction efforts in unstable states. I'm being assigned as the Operations NCO for one of 16 teams stationed in Iraq. I will post pictures and updates for your enjoyment.

First month of notification:
For the past month I have been getting this 45 year old body into Combat Ready Shape. I will be attending Combat Training during the month of August and I will be more than ready for what ever the Army has to throw at me.
Hi Bob. Tony Ratliff here. 520 days! Holy smokes. How did you manage to get that Blessing? At age 45...well that was a few years back for me, you can handle anything the Army dishes out for Combat Readiness Training. I spent last weekend with the Iowa ANG at Camp Dodge. The Leadership Reaction Course was a great challenge. The Navy seems to work smarter at solving problems in the field than what I observed from our Army brothers and sisters. We can all learn from joint services opportunities like the one you are embarked on now. Wishing you all the best on your deployment. Tony Ratliff ITC(AW\SW\EXW) Class of FY10

Sounds like an interesting assignment. I know I wouldnt be a fan of having to do the army training either, and I'm "only" 30.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will be well suited for this assignment. You are a very dedicated sailor, and you'll do this job as best as it can be done.
