WOW!

Join me on my adventure to the big sandbox in Iraq. I started on this adventure March 29, 2010 when I was notified that I was being mobilized for 520 days to serve with a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) based in Iraq. The definition for Provincial Reconstruction Team is a unit consisting of military officers, diplomats, and reconstruction subject matter experts, working to support reconstruction efforts in unstable states. I'm being assigned as the Operations NCO for one of 16 teams stationed in Iraq. I will post pictures and updates for your enjoyment.

WAR

Below is a common theme that I'm going to use for the blog, I think this will help keep the blog focused.

WAR= Worry, Anxiety, & Reality

Worry; how is my family going to get along without me.

Anxiety; is my body going to be able to handle the Combat Training. I'm more scared of that then going to Iraq. Don't get me wrong I'm scared of going to Iraq, anyone who tells you they are not is not alive.

Reality; WOW. I'm really going to do this. Excitement has set in. I'm ready for this and I'm going to make a difference and leave this mission better than I found it. I'm going to be able to LEAD men & women in an combat environment. This is great stuff. Men have written about this from the beginning of time and I'm going to get to live it.

  1. I was there in 03' in a similar situation and this is well said of what you are currently feeling. As a chief or in your case a senior chief, remember where you came from and always take care of the troops. This is sometimes easier said than done. You will feel all kinds of emotions throughout your tour. keep everything in check, stay alert and never let your gaurd down. Good Luck!

  2. When do you actually deploy - or are you already there? Keep your spirits up and know that everyone at home supports your mission.
